Boosting Talent in Bulgaria

I first heard about the VMware Talent Boost Class from two of my friends who had attended the previous editions. The highly intensive course is held during the summer at VMware’s offices in Sofia, Bulgaria. One of the best things about the course was the size of the class. There were only 20 students in my edition, so we all had the opportunity to actively participate and have all our questions around the course material answered. Throughout the course I learned that it is okay to ask questions, even if you ask the same questions more than once. Asking questions doesn’t make you sound unqualified or unprepared. On the contrary,  having a questioning mind shows that you are a responsible and proactive addition to the team.

One of my biggest moments of growth was after the Talent Boost Class when I joined VMware as a member of the 2015 intern class. Interning at VMware did not only allow me to apply my learnings from the Talent Boost, but also to explore new areas in IT while getting to know the work atmosphere at the company. Overall, the Talent Boost Class allowed me to systemize my knowledge so that I have a holistic view of IT.

VMware Intern Life

As a VMware intern, I had the opportunity to work on a project that focuses on the data transport optimization of the product my team is working on. Every week I had discussions with my mentor around what I was working on, any problems that I had  run into and the best approach to tackle them. Along with my mentor meetings, I also had the opportunity to take part in team meetings to discuss major changes and plans for the project. At lunch time we usually went to some of the nearby food places, which was a great way to get to know my colleagues while taking a break from the work.

Talent Boost 2018

Talent Boost is a free initiative of VMware Bulgaria which aims to enhance and further develop the software development knowledge of young talents. It is a free six week intensive training during which leading engineers and IT experts take the role of trainers and mentors for students enrolled in the program. The Talent Boost program focuses on developing the skills needed for developing a successful career in IT and covers a wide range of topics-from algorithms and data structures to Spring-based applications. Besides improving participants’ coding skills and technology knowledge, the training also introduces them to the art of analysis, architecture, and design.

The Talent Boost 2018 edition is open for applications  until 20th of March and the training starts on 26th of March. This year the initiative is in partnership between VMware and  x8academy. The trainers are among the most prominent mentors in the IT sector with different approach to knowledge sharing.
